Virginia Rivera, CFRE, CSPG, Consulting Associate

Virginia Rivera, CFRE, CSPG, has 23 years of fundraising experience including campaign and major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation support, planned gifts, prospect research, donor relations and stewardship, development communications and advancement services. She has personally secured more than $15 million in charitable gifts including a $1 million grant from the Kresge Foundation and a $1.5 million grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation.

She has served as Vice President for Development at Mills College (Oakland, CA) where she managed a $15 million annual goal and directed planning for the college’s current capital campaign. She served as Senior Director of Individual Giving at University of California Davis where she managed the development of the University’s largest gifts. As Associate Vice President for Development at San Jose State University she was responsible for the overall direction of the University’s fundraising program including strategic planning and campaign direction. Her career also includes fundraising appointments at San Jose Medical Center Foundation and Alexian Brothers Hospital Foundation.

Virginia has been active in professional fundraising associations including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, CASE (higher education) and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. She holds the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG) credentials.

She is also an engaged community leader. She currently serves as a board member at MAAP, Inc. (formerly Mexican American Alcoholism Program). In prior years she has served on the boards of the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California, Latina Leadership Network, Hispanic Women’s Council, and Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley. While on the Hispanic Foundation board she served as Vice Chair and Chair of Corporate Sponsorship for the Hispanic Charity Ball. She has also served on the KNTV Hispanic Advisory Board and the conference planning committee of the National Hispanic Employee Association.

Virginia holds a Bachelor of Science (Business Administration) from the University of Phoenix and a Master’s in Mass Communications from San Jose State University.
