Peter A. Caputo, Senior Consultant

Peter Caputo became affiliated with Brakeley Briscoe Inc. in 2006. A 25-year resident of the Philadelphia area, he has been a fundraising professional as both an institutional development officer and a consultant since 1976. His first assignment with BBI was a campaign for the Greater Pittston (PA) YMCA and subsequently as interim vice president at Moravian College.

His advancement career began at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where he worked in government relations, corporate and foundation relations, and major gifts. In 1980 he became Director of Development at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, progressing to Vice President for Development. In 1987 he became Vice President for Development at Widener University in Chester, PA, where he remained until 2002, when he assumed the same position at the Main Line Health System, Bryn Mawr, PA. While acting as interim vice president at Moravian College he was asked to remain full time in the position and did so for the next three years. In all of these venues, he experienced hands-on involvement in capital campaigns of magnitudes ranging up to $300 million, and he managed staffs of 30 or more.

As a consultant he has recently served the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center, Valley Forge Military Academy and College, Delaware County Community Foundation, Holy Family University, and Delaware Valley College. He has also taught graduate courses in philanthropy and nonprofit management as an adjunct instructor at Widener University.

He has been active in such professional organizations as AHP, CASE and AFP both nationally and locally, the Delaware Valley Planned Giving Committee, the Delaware Valley Chief Development Officers Forum, and others. He has also been a member of teams visiting three institutions for the Commission of Higher Education’s Middle States Association Accreditation programs. He is a graduate of St. Bernard Seminary and College, Rochester, NY, and has advanced degrees from Duquesne University (M.A. in African Affairs) and the University of Pittsburgh (M.P.A.). He served with the Peace Corps in Malawi in the 1960s.

Married with three adult sons, he lives in Wynnewood, PA.
