Jon Clarke Keates, Consulting Associate

Jon is a veteran of thirty-six years as institutional advancement officer, alumni relations professional, and consultant. His credentials include leading two successful comprehensive campaigns at Claremont McKenna College ($59.5 million and $129.5 million, respectively, both well in excess of goal), as well as strengthening and developing advancement programs dramatically at every institution he has served, especially with respect to their annual funds and alumni giving.

At Claremont McKenna College, total dollars raised increased three-fold during his sixteen-year tenure, and alumni participation in the annual fund grew from 40 percent to 55 percent. During his eight years at Occidental College, gifts from alumni increased nine-fold, participation in the alumni fund climbed from 29 percent to 45 percent, and total giving to the College increased from $9 million annually to $25.5 million. During his first year at the University of Southern California, gifts from alumni grew by 12 percent.

Under Jon's leadership, his programs and institutions have received twelve CASE awards over the years, including several specifically for alumni giving. Always active in CASE, Jon has chaired or served as a panelist or faculty member for numerous CASE institutes and seminars.

As a consultant, he has worked with Boston University and William and Mary College on their overall advancement efforts and with Vanderbilt University, Bryn Mawr College and Agnes Scott College specifically on their annual fund programs.

An A. B. graduate of Brown University in English, Jon holds an M.A. in English Literature from Duke University, where he was also an "ABD" doctoral candidate in English Literature.
