Janet S. Curtis, CFRE, Senior Consulting Associate

Janet Curtis, CFRE is a veteran fundraising executive who has worked for more than 25 years with nonprofit organizations to advance their missions. Her experience spans human services, cultural, civic, and environmental organizations. She specializes in board development, grant development and writing, and program management.

Janet is former Vice President for Development at the National Building Museum. She has also served as Vice President for Development at the Center for Resource Economics/Island Press and as Manager-Corporate and Foundation Relations at the League of Women Voters of the United State/Education Fund. She has been Director of Development and Public Relations at The C.A.R.E. Center, a Pennsylvania drug and alcohol and sexual abuse counseling center.

Her recent clients include Friends of the National Library of Medicine, the Washington National Cathedral, and Leadership Conference Education Fund. Some of her other clients include American Hospice Foundation, Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, Children’s National Medical Center, Shaw Community Ministry, and the National League of Cities.

She holds the M.Ed. in Student Personnel Services from the University of Pennsylvania and earlier in her career she was a Guidance Counselor at a Title 1 junior high school in the District of Columbia. She has been a CFRE since 1996.

Janet is a frequent contributor to journals and professional conferences including the Center for Nonprofit Success, Association Foundation Group, Association of Jesuit University Presses, and Wellesley College Alumnae Association.

Her governing board service includes C & O Canal Trust, Washington Master Chorale, and various stewardship and governance roles at Little River United Church of Christ, Annandale, VA. She was co-Chair of the Association of Philanthropy’s DC chapter’s 2014 National Capital Philanthropy Day. Jan is active in the Association Foundation Group AFG), a professional organization for people whose work is with associations and the foundations that support them. This year she was a member of the 2014 National Conference Planning Committee for AFG. Janet lives in Annandale, VA, a suburb of Washington DC.
