Donald F. Martin, Consulting Associate

Don Martin's fundraising/advancement career spans over 29 years. He has consulted primarily with educational organizations, museums, and a community foundation. Some of his clients have included The Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute, The Heart of New York Foundation, St. Lawrence University, Morrisville College, and the College of the Virgin Islands.

He served as Director of Advancement, Capital and Planned Gifts at Colgate University where he first began as Director of Planned Giving 25 years ago. He retired from Colgate in January of this year. Colgate is now completing a comprehensive campaign of $400 million dollars which is the third successful major campaign during Don's tenure with the University. The Planned Giving program secured over $220 million during Don's leadership at Colgate.

He previously served as Director of Alumni Relations at St. Lawrence University, his alma mater, for 5 years, Vice President of Foley Real Estate on Cape Cod and Director of Freshman Financial Aid at Colgate University.

Don currently serves as a founding member of the Heart of New York Foundation and has been a long time member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He has been a faculty member at CASE district conferences and CASE conferences for planned giving professionals and conferences for development newcomers. He is the current chair of the Saranac Planned Giving Group and a long time participant of the Middlebury Planned Giving Conference.

Don holds his Bachelor's degree in economics (1970) and a M.Ed. from St. Lawrence University and received a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
