Audits, Feasibility and Planning Studies

The old adage is, "Plan your work; work your plan."

BBI has helped a myriad of non profits develop a fundraising plan in which all parts of the organization's fundraising are coordinated and linked to the organization's strategic plan and mission.

For organizations which are just getting into fundraising, we start from scratch and help them understand all aspects of development. We get them to understand where to begin and focus their energy so that they can truly get the biggest bang for their buck. We define the roles of top management, development staff, board, and line management, not just generally, but specifically for the organization.

For organizations which are not satisfied with their current development function we help them develop a plan to improve. In many instances, where key development positions are vacant, we are asked to develop a plan so that when the new staff is hired, they already have a plan and can hit the ground running.

For organizations which are about to launch a capital campaign we do an in depth planning study. (We don't like to call these feasibility studies, which implies a binary choice of whether or not it is possible to raise the campaign's goal. Instead we call them planning studies, because we believe the key issue is not whether the goal is feasible, but how the client should best go about the campaign.)

BBI's development plans are challenging but realistic. They are not boilerplate. We look carefully at all aspects of the current organization including board, top management, development staff, systems, donors, and prospective donors to develop a plan which will improve all aspects of fundraising.

BBI's plans include budgets, staffing recommendations, goals, objectives, and timelines. Our plans live on. The key stakeholders, organization staff and board are using the plans to check status and progress of their fundraising for months and years after we have communicated the plans to the organization.
