George A. Brakeley III, MBAGeorge A. Brakeley III joined what is now Brakeley Briscoe Inc. in 1969 after four years in sales and marketing with Humble Oil (now Exxon-Mobil). During his 38 years in the profession, George has served almost 200 institutions and organizations in the United States and overseas with campaign goals ranging from $750,000 to $525 million, including fourteen campaigns with goals of $100 million or more. His current clients include The Ohio State University, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Carolinas Healthcare Foundation, Moravian College, Norwalk Community College, Birmingham-Southern College, Fundación Amador (the Museum of Biodiversity) in Panama, The Jack Miller Center for the Teaching of America's Founding Principles and History (IL), and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He served as chairman of the American Association of Fund Raising Counsel in 1988 and 1989. George is a graduate of St. Andrew's School, Princeton University (A. B. in History, 1961), and the University of Connecticut (M.B.A., 1976). He served as a Captain from 1961-1965 in the U.S. Marine Corps (Artillery) and won a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter freestyle (swimming) in the 1964 Military Olympics, in Barcelona, Spain. A practicing volunteer, he currently serves as Secretary of his Princeton class, of which he was President from 1976 to 1986. He has served as a member of the Advisory Council of the Department of History and the Annual Giving Committee at Princeton, and currently serves on the Alumni Council's Committee on Class Affairs. He has been an Alumni Board member and Class Agent at St. Andrew's School. He is a Trustee Emeritus of the University of Connecticut Foundation and a former Trustee of the Congregational Church, Community YMCA, United Way, the High School Scholarship Foundation, all of New Canaan, and ABC of New Canaan. George and his wife Ellen reside in New Canaan, CT. His daughter Kristin, a Miami University graduate, resides in Pittsburgh, PA with her family, while son Bill, who spent four years as a pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system, resides in Delaware. George is a member of the New Canaan (CT) Field Club and the Princeton Club of New York.
